Umbra Triplicata

Umbra Triplicata 2015 https://vimeo.com/890119967 Beside the physical object (metal frames), the work has a virtual layer as well. The virtual layer is spatially projected (3D mapped) onto the surface of the real, exhibited object. The artwork deals with the unique power of light and shadows to modulate space, showing how the relation between the real and the virtual content – combined with 3D mapping techniques – can affect the way we see and perceive the visual experience. The re-projection of the virtual 3D animation onto the real three-dimensional scene, and the interplay that results from the combination of the two components (real-virtual), results in a novel and perplexing visual experience. By changing the position of the virtual light and shadows, viewers can no longer interpret their visual impressions using their accustomed methods, because the projected image modifies the surface and the space it is projected to, overriding our logical schemes of understanding. The projection derails the viewer’s customary schemes of perception and urges them to create new processes of interpretation. Since 2019, Umbra Triplicata is part of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media (ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien – Karlsruhe) permanent collection, considered to be the very first 3d mapping installation purchased by a notorious collection. The visually undecidable gap between representation and reality makes Umbra Triplicata also a singular conceptual work. Umbra Triplicata by Laszlo Bordos is one of the best works of light art. LightForms

LightForms 2018 Photo by: Andreas Sporn Text by: Hsiaosung Kok / Ritter Museum Waldenbuch: Lightforms of László Zsolt Bordos are objects that study the behavior of primary geometric shapes and the ways they are affected by the lumino-kinetic environment. The moving light source creates a continuous variable of the visual experience. Due to the movement of light and shadows, the geometric shapes are always brought into new light situations. By showing the ever-changing aspects and patterns of the same forms, the artwork offers the possibility of a continuous sampling. The light source moves clockwise and revolves in exactly 1 minute. The triad of the three shapes inevitably evokes the association of a sundial, reminiscent of the motion of the planets. Bordos ’work invites visitors to a meditative experience of three-dimensional Space and Time. Concept and design: László Zsolt Bordos Frames and woodwork: Kristóf Rácz LED controller: Zoltán Czingáli
ShadowGraphy

ShadowGraphy series 2023-2025 https://vimeo.com/1054257932 Brief description of the artwork: The work focuses on the transformation of static, three-dimensional objects into dynamic, two-dimensional shadow compositions. By moving the light sources, Bordos reveals hidden geometries and patterns that emerge when the shadows align with the illumination. The artwork consists of meticulously arranged pins emerging from the surface, forming a precise, symmetrical pattern. When illuminated, these physical structures create shadows that amplify the design’s complexity. The artwork explores themes of perception, light, and space, blurring the boundaries between the tangible and intangible. Through this work, Bordos elevates shadows from a passive byproduct of light into an essential component of the artistic experience and invites viewers to contemplate the unseen and appreciate the transformative power of light. The title: Shadowgraphy was given by Márton Orosz art historian. Size: 50 x 50 x 5cm Year made, date: 2023 – 2024 Technical information and requirements: the work can be hanged, it only needs electricity! Previous exhibitions: Shadowgraphy consists of a series of similar works, the first prototype was exhibited at the Vasarely Museum in Budapest in year 2023 at the exhibition titled: Luminotheque, curated by Márton Orosz, the director of the Vasarely Museum in Budapest. That artwork entered the collection of the Signal Festival in Prague. Special requirements for the installation: The artwork is running on 220V, European standard. The artwork needs to be exhibited in dark or semi-dark environments. Photos by: Weronika Tylec Photo by: Márton Orosz
SPIDRON™

SPIDRON 2014 https://vimeo.com/97741588 SPIDRON OBJECT MAPPING is an art installation which uses a complex geometric shape, stereoscopic 3d animation, sound and video projection mapping to create an audio-visual experience. The geometric shape was invented by Dániel Erdély. SPIDRON was presented at A38 Gallery and New Budapest Gallery in Budapest in 2014, at Glow Eindhoven in 2014, at BAM festival Liege in 2015, at Patchlab Krakkow in 2015, at Brasov National Museum in 2019 and Klanglicht Graz in 2021. creaturae at SIGNAL PRAGUE – CZ / 2022

creaturae 2020 – 2022 https://vimeo.com/873484211 creaturae – Light and sound. Two living creatures, two radiant spots that pulsate with music. Sound is a wave. It reflects, resonates and fades. Photons behave as waves and particles. Light is constantly moving, disappearing and revealing the previously unknown. It is also a wave. Creaturae is a two-channel projection that uses two spherical mirrors and projects images onto them. It draws attention to the two basic qualities of light – one projected and the other refracted. The light rays intertwine and create seemingly tangible images. The artist is guided by the idea: If Light means Life, then Light is a living Creature! If light means life, then Light is a living creature itself. The first version of this artwork was first presented at the Constellations de Metz festival in 2020. concept, visuals & lighting design: László Zsolt Bordossound: Ondřej Skálalight programming: Karel “Karlos” Šimekprojectionist: Tomáš Vondráčektechnicians: Jan Hladil, Julius Štefantechnical director: Roman Dušek †office & PR: Sára Němečkovácurators: Daniel Burda and Martin Posta prologue:sound & lights: Karel “Karlos” Šimek Photo by: Viktor Schwing Photo by: Martin Hurin Photo by: Kostel Vaclava
